The facial nerve (cranial nerve [CN] VII) is a frequently overlooked structure on imaging examinations. Knowledge of the normal anatomy, embryology, and spectrum of abnormality will aid radiologists in correctly diagnosing lesions of the facial nerve. In this article, we review normal facial nerve anatomy, clinical presentations, imaging approaches, and selected cases of facial nerve abnormality.
